091024 CB Video : The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America (CBHSNA) www.clevelandbay.org recently held a video shoot for an upcoming special on Cleveland Bay Horses. Several society members converged on River Glen Equestrian Park www.river-glen.com in New Market, TN for the shoot. Jon with Horseflicks filmed while the CB owners showed the many versatile uses for CBs. Rick brought his camera to capture the action, resulting in the pictures shown here. Unfortunately Rick didn't get to photograph the fox hunt... missing the 2 foxes spotted by the group (they did get 'em in the video). Big thanks to Bill at River Glen for being such a great host, to Jon and Horseflicks, and to all the CB owners who traveled far and wide to make it to the event. It was great to finally put a name with a face.

090905 Sterling Silver Stables : We packed up a couple trailers full of horses and a couple of cars of people from RLEC and invited a few other friends over to Sterling Silver Stables in Lafayette for a cross country schooling day. As you can tell from the photos everyone had a great time... but the day was bittersweet. Jessica who has been with RLEC since she was 10 is now a freshman at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Today she and Lightning moved to their new home at SSS. Thanks to everyone at SSS who really went out of their way to make us feel at home. We know Jessica and Lightning are in good hands.

090717 Breyerfest : Each year Breyer Horses (breyerhorses.com) holds BreyerFest at the Kentucky Hose Park in Lexington. A big part of the activities is horse demonstrations by many different breeds and disciplines. As owners of a rare breed (the Cleveland Bay) we are often asked to do demonstrations for the public to promote the breed, and for several years now we've often made the 13 hour trek from LA to KY to do so at Breyerfest. This year however was different in that our CBs were not able to make the trip, but not to worry as another CB owner came to the rescue. Thanks to Rick and Donna McDowell who brought Gracie for Michelle to ride while Donna rode Maiden. We normally have several more CBs in the demonstration, but unfortunately it was only these two this year. Maiden is a thoroughbred cross and Gracie is a percheron cross. Enjoy the photos.

Try as I did, I wasn't happy with the results so I'm offering the entire day's photos free for download. You can still purchase the photos online if you wish but I've enabled all of them so that you can download whatever you want. They are posted at half their RAW size (about 2.5K each) so they should be way large enough for you to print your own photos. 090517 Sacred Heart : The Dressage Schooling Show at Sacred Heart Academy was the place to be today.  We packed up Katie/Journey, Jessica & Rachael/Lightning, Alex/Spirit.  Michelle R, Emily, Libby, and a couple of sets of parents as well.  Rick smoked some chicken and brought some sides and several others pitched in as well (John had his kickin' Caesar salad).  It would have been a bit nicer if mother nature wouldn't have made it 65 degrees with a light rain most of the day, but we all still had a great time and brought home lots of ribbons.  Alex placed 5th intro A and 4th intro B.  Katie placed 1st in BN A and BN B. Rachel placed 1st intro B, 3rd training test 1, and Champion in Intro. Jessica placed 1st training A and in Prix Caprilli #2. Thanks to Emily, Libby, and Michelle R. for coming out to help with the show. Enjoy the photos.

Modeled after the Extreme Cowboy races competitors and their horses make their way through an obstacle course of sorts which is timed. Those with the quickest time and least number of errors at the obstacles win. As you can see we had a great turn out this year by a multitude of disciplines. There was even a Jr. division. Emily Embree from Right Lead Equestrian (our farm) took third winning $100, Susan Morris took second ($200) and first ($300) on two different horses. The weather was overcast and a little chilly but there was a great turnout for the event. We have posted over 700 pictures in all. Enjoy!

Seventeen year old Scarlett (owned by the Fenners) started showing neurological signs on 09/06 so we took her to the LSU vet school for care. Unfortunately she did not get better and had to be put down on Wednesday 09/10. The autopsy did not show anything out of the ordinary and the tissue samples so far haven't given too much of a clue. Scarlet shared a special friendship with several of our Right Leaders. Please keep Scarlett's friends and family in your thoughts and prayers.

080703 Cue Memorial : This gallery is a memorial to an equine friend who is no longer with us. On July 3rd during the morning feeding Michelle saw that Cue would not come up to eat and appeared unable to move. As she approached him in the field she was horrified to find the problem. Cue had been kicked and suffered a compound fracture to his right front leg just above the knee. The injury appeared to have just occurred and it was obviously non-repairable. Several of our clients and some friends from the past made it out in time for one last goodbye while Cue heartily ate his last meal of grain as he had done for the past 17 years of his life. A heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dennis French and the LSU Vet School students who were extremely professional and sensitive to the human aspect of such a tragic event. Cue Ball (aka Roger, aka Hot Rod) taught many people in the Baton Rouge Area to ride. He was a great lesson horse who made his riders work for everything. That's what a great lesson horse is supposed to do, teach riders. We were blessed to have him as a part of the Right Lead family for the past four years and his absence will be felt for a long time to come. We love you Cue and are going to miss you.

Rachel/Scarlett won both the mini-stirrup O/F classes and was second in the U/S class earning her the championship. Katie/Journey took home 3 thirds in the Novice Equitation division. 080504 Sprite : May 4, 2008 - Happy Birthday Baby Filly! Quite a bit of planning went into bringing another wonderful Cleveland Bay into the world. The sire of this filly is the pure bred Cleveland Bay Stainmore Wolfhound of Ridgemore Farm (www.ridgemore.net) and the dam is our Cleveland Bay Sporthorse Imaten (Emma). The baby was conceived by artificial insemination and then the embryo was transferred into a surrogate mare (the paint horse Flashy in these photos). We knew Flashy was close but we thought we had a few more days. We happened upon our new little bundle of joy when feeding our horses this Sunday morning. Both Flashy and filly are doing just fine. Although we humans missed the actual birth you can see from the photos we weren’t that far behind the big event. We're working on a name for our baby and I'm sure Michelle will entertain suggestions. Speaking of suggestions, I have one... 070720 BryerFest : Breyer Animal Creations has for the last 18 years hosted BreyerFest at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington Kentucky. This montage of events is an equestrian extravaganza setting for Breyer model collectors to buy, sell, trade, and in some cases afford the opportunity to view the real live star of their favorite collectable. Such was the case this year for Cleveland Bay lovers. Tregoyd Journeyman (Joe) a Cleveland Bay Stallion owned by Anna and Daniel Cohen of Bay Haven Farm, LLC and OldDominion Stud in Roundhill VA was the center of attention in 2006 as his model was unveiled at BreyerFest. Several Cleveland Bay owners rallied to support Joe and traveled to Kentucky for a Cleveland Bay Exhibition. That was last year, however most of us had so much fun, and Breyer wanted the group back for the 07 event so we made the trek.

Although it was a 14 hour drive from Baton Rouge, LA Michelle and I only needed an excuse to visit the horse capital of the world and boy was it worth the trip. Each day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we helped promote Cleveland Bays before the crowd in the stadium during the exhibition, and as we walked around the park and let people get up close and touch our wonderful animals.

We were joined by several other Cleveland Bay owners with both pure and part bred horses. We made lots of new friends and had a chance to do what we love most.. share a piece of our love for horses with others.

Donna McDowell brought Gracie. Dr. Tracie Traver and Tally Mock brought Buffalo Bill Cody and Bensington Bluestone from Ridgemor Farm. Laurel Watson brought Belladonna Leo from Divine Equine Stables and Michelle and I brought Imaten (Emma) from right here at Right Lead Equestrian Center.

The course was completed about a year ago, long after both Gretchen and Michelle left BREC... but the fruit of their planning is finally here.

We took every able bodied horse and most of our riders out to the course for schooling today, those who didn't jump took advantage of the wide open spaces and pretty calm temperatures for a leisurely trail ride. The course still has some minor work to be done... but as you can see from the pictures the jumps and layout are very well designed and executed.

070602 Amen Corners : What a great event! For those of you who missed it be sure to look for this show next year. SEDA sponsored a Junior Dressage Show out at Amen Corners. Unfortunately most of our group were out busy with other things, but Margo and Romeo were able to make it out. They placed first in both their Training Tests and their Prix Caprilli to take Champion in Training. Way to go Margo!

070325 Watershed Schooling : Well spring has officially sprung and what a better way to enjoy a beautiful Sunday than out on a cross country course with a bunch of your crazy friends. Thanks to SEDA and Elizabeth Cummings Right Lead got that chance on March 25th out at Watershed. We grabbed a bunch of girls, loaded up the horses, and had an absolute ball. Don't believe me... just take a look at Cheryl's husband Johnny. If that's not team spirit I don't know what is (you'll know him when you see him).
